Fireworks Safety: 5 Tips Every Shooter Should Know
By Kristian Henson

Fireworks are all about fun, but every great show starts with one thing: safety. Whether you’re lighting a single fountain in the backyard or planning a full finale, these simple reminders will help keep your celebration safe and stress-free.
1. Keep Water Close
Always have a hose, bucket of water, or fire extinguisher nearby. A quick response is the best way to prevent a small spark from becoming a big problem.
2. Protect Your Eyes
Safety glasses aren’t just for professionals. A stray spark can ruin a good night in seconds — so keep those eyes covered.
3. Designate a Shooter
Only one person should light the fireworks. A clear chain of command keeps the crowd safe and the show organized.
4. Don’t Relight Duds
If a firework doesn’t go off, don’t pick it up or try again. Wait 15–20 minutes, then soak it in water before disposal.
5. Respect the Distance
Check the safety instructions on each firework. Bigger items like aerial repeaters and artillery shells need more space than fountains or novelties.
